Liebster Award

I am honored to be writing this post!  As long as I’ve been seriously food blogging, I’ve seen the Liebster Award on many smaller blogs and I’ve always wanted to answer the fun questions the nominees get asked.  A big thank you to Josefine at The Smoothie Lover for nominating me!

I love doing these kind of posts – they are so fun to read on other blogs and they are so fun to write myself!  I really enjoy learning about other bloggers, especially when it goes beyond their favorite cookie.  It is easy for me to forget bloggers are real people when all I see is their food blogger side.  This is a chance to get to know other bloggers better and have some fun in between the actual baking, photographing, and editing of blogging.  It is like visiting over coffee; low key, relaxed, and just for fun.  If you don’t want to, feel free to skip out.  But be warned, you will be missing out on a lot of fun!

Now, I had to do my research – what is the Liebster award?  It is an award given by bloggers to other bloggers and its purpose is to promote smaller blogs.  HERE is an official overview of the Liebster award, complete with rules and everything.  Here is the Mary Frances abbreviated version:

1. Thank the person who nominated you in the post.

2. Post a pictures of the award in your post, sidebar, or awards page.

3. Answer the 11 questions asked by the nominator.

4. Choose 11 bloggers (with less than 1000 followers) to nominate and let them know.

5. Feel Liebster-esqe and celebrate!

Rules out of the way, let the fun begin!  Here are Josefine’s 11 questions:

1. Why did I start blogging?

I started blogging because my English teacher had us write weekly posts as one of our assignments.  I didn’t start food blogging until a couple months later and it wasn’t until the last 8-9 months that I realized food blogging can be more than a hobby and that there are so many different ways you can make your blog a business (ie Pinterest, Foodgawker, advertising, etc.)  I began food blogging out of a need to finish an assignment and I’ve continued it out of a love for meeting new bloggers, refining my photography, and baking (usually) creative and healthy desserts.

2. My favorite post that I’ve written.

Oh boy, well, I can definitely think of some least favorites, but as far as ones I’ve loved?  From a personal standpoint, this post about what club volleyball has taught me is one of my most raw posts on the blog.  And I’m really proud of my Moving from Blogger to WordPress series.  As far as recipes go, my favorite is my Black Bean Brownie Mug Cake.  Black bean brownies in a mug – I was so excited it actually worked!

3. Snacks: Sweet or Salty?

Totally depends on my mood.  Sometimes I want pita chips and hummus and other times only a fudge energy bar will do.  I know that isn’t answering the question … I guess I’ll say both, because my all time favorite is trail mix, with salty nuts, MnMs, (or dairy free chocolate chips) and dried fruit granola, all stirred up!

4.  Who is my blogger “idol” and why?

I have a couple.  Probably Sally (Sally’s Baking Addiction), Jocelyn (Inside BruCrew Life), or Lindsay (Pinch of Yum.)  I really admire Jocelyn for her ability to be a pastor’s wife, mom, AND incredibly successful blogger.  Her posts are personal and engaging and she always posts some crazy good looking recipe, whether dessert or dinner.

I admire Sally for her blog itself and her stunning photos.  She has built up a wildly popular blog in less than three years, which is really impressive.  She also has posts that are about food, but always some tidbit about her.  I’ve been following and commenting on her blog for a while and she always responds with sweet comments (and she gets hundreds, if not more, a day, so it means a lot that she takes the time to respond to the comments.)

And I admire Lindsay for how she and her husband have mastered blogging as a full time job.  Plus, her recipe page is chock full of creative, delicious, usually healthy, and just amazing photography.  I have only followed her from a distance, but I’ve used several of her recipes and they are keepers.

5.  What sports do I play?

I’ve done many sports, but currently, I’m only playing volleyball competitively.  I do golf tournaments in the summer, but other than that, its all recreational.  My heart belongs to volleyball and I have loved played for the last five years with CHIEF and for the first time this fall, a traveling team.  I love the challenge of it, even though it isn’t until the higher level that you have to start being disciplined about practices and working out.  It can be a lower key sport, compared to soccer, but high school and college are a blast to watch (and in the high school case, play)  I’ve always been a setter, but I played defensive specialist for the traveling team.  They are pretty much opposite positions, but I really enjoyed both of them.   So pumped for this next school year!

6. What is my favorite breakfast?

A bowl of almond butter banana shredded wheat oatmeal.  Sprinkle some coconut and chocolate chips on top and I’m one happy camper.

7. What camera do I use?

My Mom’s :)  I seriously have no idea what it is.  Let me check … ok, its a Canon Rebel (XTi .. is that the make?)  I am so glad I didn’t have to buy a quality camera in order to blog about food.  My blog wouldn’t be where it is today without Mom’s camera.  Thank you Mom.  I always shoot in natural light, and I think I shoot auto.

8. What is my dream travel destination?

England, hands down.  I’m set on visiting all the cute cafes, taking photos in front of incredible historic sites, and drinking in all the gorgeous scenery.  Plus, their accents are the best.  I’m jealous of you Brits.

9. What language do I want to learn to speak fluently?

Hmmm … do I have to put in the work to speak it?  😉  I would like to learn French or Spanish fluently.  I’ve done Spanish 1, but that is about it!  And I started French, but an online course can’t compare to an actual class.  So I didn’t get very far with that one either.

10.  Pets?

Not at the moment.  We’ve had four cats and two dogs over my life time, but our last cat, Eli, died on Thanksgiving a couple years ago.  He was my buddy.  I don’t think I want another pet right now, but if I did, it would be a cat.  I’m not a huge dog person (sorry!)

Awwr thanks so much for the shoutout, lady <3 I just filled one of these out a little while ago, but I'll definitely be saving this baby for the future 😀 I'd love to learn Spanish… I took a few classes in university, but not enough to really learn to speak it fluently. I'm thinking I'll just have to spend a few months in Spain to pick it up 😉
